What you’ll learn

  • DJ gear + beatmatching fundamentals (Serato or Rekordbox)

Understanding DJ gear and the fundamentals of beatmatching is essential for any aspiring DJ. Whether you're using Serato or Rekordbox, grasping the basic principles of beatmatching can elevate your performance and help you create seamless transitions between tracks.

  • Music discovery + crate building

Music discovery and crate building are integral parts of navigating the vast landscape of sound. By delving into various genres, artists, and playlists, listeners uncover hidden gems that resonate with their personal taste.

  • Mixing, transitions, and energy flow

Mixing, transitions, and energy flow are crucial elements in creating cohesive and engaging narratives. Mixing involves blending various elements, such as themes or genres, to enhance the overall experience. Transitions serve as bridges between tracks ensuring a smooth progression. Energy flow refers to the rhythm and momentum.

  • Storytelling through sound

An art form that transforms a collection of tracks into a cohesive narrative. A skilled DJ crafts a journey by selecting and blending songs that reflect a range of emotions, creating dynamic highs and introspective lows.

  • How to prepare and perform a full set

Practice mixing techniques like beatmatching and cueing. During the set, build crowd readership, adjust your playlist and incorporate live remixes or effects. Finally, test your equipment to prevent technical issues.

  • Networking and community building

Fostering connections among DJs, venue owners, and fans allows for resource and knowledge sharing. Collaborative events and gatherings enhance skills and creativity while supporting artist growth. A strong community promotes local talent and encourages project collaboration, contributing to the scene's longevity and vibrancy.

WHY THIS CONTAINER?

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all class, it’s a creative mentorship designed to help you unlock your unique sound, learn the gear, and step into your power. We’ll teach you the technical skills and guide you toward auditioning a full, intentional set for our performance showcase.

APPLICATION PROCESS

This is a selective container (6 students max), not because we want to keep people out but because we’re deeply intentional about who we pour into.

We’re looking for students who are aligned with connection, creative growth, and community values —because by the end of this container, you won’t just be playing a set...
You’ll be representing us.

This container reflects our name, our values, and the kind of DJ community we’re building on O‘ahu and beyond. We want to make sure the energy is right…for you and for us.

All applicants will go through an audition process, which includes:

  • An internal audition during the container — each student will perform their set in front of the cohort in a supportive, feedback-based session

  • Weekly 1:1 progress check-ins throughout the 8-week container to ensure your growth and goals stay aligned

If this round fills up, don’t worry — more cohorts will be announced soon.
Apply now to be considered for the upcoming session and stay on our radar for future rounds.

THE BREAKDOWN (12 WEEKS)

WEEK 1

intention & skill assessment

We’ll start by getting to know your goals, creative style, and current level. You’ll get hands-on with the gear, and we’ll assess where you’re starting from so we can customize your sessions from there. No pressure.

week 2 - week 4 - gear, beatmatching & cueing

You’ll dive into the core functions of DJ gear and begin manual beatmatching. We’ll cover cueing, tempo control, and loading tracks, laying the foundation for smooth, intentional transitions.

week 5 - crate building & music discovery

You’ll start digging and organizing music in a way that supports your sound and storytelling. We’ll show how to organize your library, and how to start shaping your unique vibe.

WEEK 6 - week 7 - mixing techniques & transitions

Now that you’ve built your crate, we’ll teach you how to blend tracks using EQ, filters, and phrasing. You’ll learn different transition styles and practice getting into a real flow.

week 8 - week 9 - set building & storytelling

Time to craft your 15-20 minute set. You’ll organize your tracklist, refine transitions, and build a set that tells a story. We’ll also touch on naming your set, performance mindset, and creative identity.

week 10 - polish + creative identity

Refine your set, artist name, and set branding (optional). Practice final tweaks and set intention for the showcase.

WEEK 11 - internal audition / rehearsal

Run through your full set with your cohort in a supportive, collaborative setting.
Receive detailed feedback on your transitions, energy flow, and performance pacing — and experience how different styles come to life across the group.

This shared audition process helps you refine your set while building community and confidence on the decks.

If selected for the Showcase, your journey continues with a professional photoshoot for your media kit and a recorded live performance set coordinated through Workroom.
